Abstract This paper presents a critical evaluation of the physical aspects lift generation to prove that no can be generated in steady inviscid flow. Hence, answer recurring question title is negative. In other words, fluid viscosity necessary generation. The relevant topics include D’Alembert’s paradox and drag, Kutta condition, force expression based on boundary enstrophy flux (BEF), vortex lift, vorticity circulation. meanings variational formulations determine circulation are discussed. particular, formulation continuity equation with first-order Tikhonov regularization functional, an incompressible flow artificial (the Lagrange multiplier) simulated, elucidating role presented contents valuable for pedagogical purposes aerodynamics mechanics.
